New Era Poetry

New Era Poetry | Memee's Musings

So, how about that election?  It’s a new year and a renewed commitment to my blog which was lagging there at the end of last year.  Being that we have a new exciting/controversial President-elect, a new congressional balance, and many changes in the wake I thought it appropriate that our first poetry party of this new era be about and around politics.

Yep, you heard me right.  This will either be amazing or sink into the deepest waters of blogpost detritus.  No matter what country you live in, what language you speak, your age, or political alignments please put your thoughts about anything politics into poetic form and join us for #NewEra poetry.  The best thing about poetry is that it can be freeform, #norules!

There are however rules for Memee’s Poetry Parties:

5-rules-of-mmpp

The hashtag for this month’s party is #NewEra.  I will post a reminder for final submissions and a call for you to let your followers understand that voting occurs offsite and you’d like them to go to the punchbowl, read all the submitted poetry, and vote for their very favorite.

Golden Globes Jot

I’ve always liked award shows. Seeing all the amazing clothes and jewels is to me now like reading about princesses when I was a child. I am also a movie buff or, at least, I was. Life kinda got in the way and I don’t see as many as I’d like. When I was a freshman in high school I had typed out, on an old manual typewriter a numbered list of all of the movies I had seen. Of course this was before the Internet so I had to do it from memory. I had over 500 movies listed. I kinda wish I’d kept up with that just because I think it’s fascinating.

My Best Dressed Picks for the evening go to:

73rd Annual Golden Globes best dressed picks

Anyways, knowing that you would probably assume, correctly, that I also like to write down who wins what awards each season. Last night I did it differently.

I wrote down what I want to see and then a few other notes just because I knew I’d be sharing. So, here’s my jot:

TO SEE:

(movie)  Steve Jobs (Kate Winslet won)
(movie)  Spy starring Melissa McCarthy
(movie)  Carol starring Cate Blanchett
(movie)  The Hateful 8 starring Samuel L. Jackson
(movie)  The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio (he’ll likely take Oscar)
(movie)  Joy starring Jennifer Lawrence
(movie)  The Big Short starring Christian Bale
(movie)  Trainwreck starring Amy Schumer
(movie)  The Room starring Juliette Danielle
(movie)  Spotlight — amazing cast
(movie)  Infinitely Polar Bear (another bipolar movie)
(movie)  The Martian starring Matt Damon
— I read the book, hated it. But knew I’d be seeing the movie anyway!

Damn, that’s a long list! What the heck have I been doing that I haven’t seen these great movies?  Oh, yeah, that’s right… blogging!

CHECK OUT:

(television)  Transparent starring Judith Light
(television)  The Affair starring Maura Tierney (She won!)
(television)  Crazy Ex-girlfriend starring Rachel Bloom
(television)  Mr. Robot starring Christian Slater (He won!)
(television)  Penny Dreadful starring Eva Green
(television)  Better Call Saul!

OTHER RANDOM NOTES:

Lady Gaga won for AHS!*  She acts now??

Is Mad Men actor Jon Hamm the same actor who plays “Older Doctor” in A Young Doctor’s Notebook?2

BEST LINE OF THE NIGHT:

Taraji P. Henson: “Please wrap?! Wait a minute. I waited 20 years for this, you’re gonna wait! Yeah, you’re gonna give me a little more time. Yeah, my fans, they’ve been praying for this. They’re all on Twitter…”

Well, you’ve just got to see it to appreciate it fully. The best acceptance speech of the night from the mouth of Ms. Taraji P. Henson, who currently plays Cookie on the TV show, Empire. Hmm, maybe I should add that to my list of shows to check out!

BEST ACCEPTANCE SPEECH OF THE NIGHT:

I hope you enjoyed my jot!

You have a few more days to participate in the Just Jot It January for 2016. Click this link to participate!

2(I looked it up. It was indeed Jon Hamm. This was a very intelligent show. Super short. I’m hoping there will be more in the future. It stands as the only thing I have ever watched on Netflix and then used the Recommend to a Friend feature from Netflix. That says something, right?) Also, as an after thought, perhaps I should break down and give into everyone’s recommendations to watch Mad Men.

*AHS stands for American Horror Story. It’s kinda cool in that every season it is an entirely different tv show except it reuses the actors in different parts. I appreciated the first season the most. Jessica Lange was amazing!

Just Jot January

Just Jost January | Memee's Musings While hopping blogs of those who’re also participating in the Color Your World challenge I discovered another blog hop I thought I’d dip my feet into and share with you. The Just Jot It January blog hop. Honestly, it was the cute badge that drew me to it and the idea of a jot (Merriam-Webster’s definition 2: A very small amount) was appealing to me too.

This of course is, as always, turning into something longer than a jot. But the challenge of it, perhaps will help teach me to be more succinct in my writing. (Or not!)

Here’s my intended jot:

1. Carbonite online storage. Highly recommended by teacher, “Is Awesome. Works perfectly. Runs constantly in the background.” Less than $20 a year she thinks. Look into it!

2. Get unbiased car insurance comparison quotes at Provide Savings (all 50 states).

Goals:

Next 7 days: Pass into 160 WPM. Next 12 Months: Graduate.

Okay, that’s my jot. What’s yours? Click on the cute badge above to participate and learn the rules. BTW, photos or artwork count because you still have to name the post and that becomes the jot! Easy-peasy!

Hi minions and newcomers, I sure hope you are enjoying this Color Your World challenge. I know I am digging it! LOL.   It is still the first week of the challenge so you certainly have time to jump in and participate from the beginning (not that you cannot just jump in whenever you decide to, because you can!).  Just click the image above to be taken to the challenge!

I started late and ended up catching up right away. But then I decided that I liked grouping the different colors together so that is how I’ve decided to go about this challenge.  For the first installment check out my post 120 Days of Crayola where I have highlighted the colors for Jan 1-4 on a challenge running into April.

For Words Crush Wednesday I shared a wonderful Brad Paisley quote we’d all do great in remembering in the post Happy New Year! I think I have managed to post everyday so far this week and as you all know I won’t keep to this pace, but I do feel like I am having a great start to the year and am enjoying a sense of invigoration.

Now, onto the colors!

Jan 5: Asparagus Green

120 Days of Crayola Colors

120-days-of-color-badge

Yesterday I posted that I was looking forward to a brighter year in 2016 and now here I am making it happen. I joined the Color Your World Challenge posted by Jennifer Nichole Wells. You can sign up your intention at this link: Color Your World sign up.

The Color your World challenge will run January through April  each year, for 120 days, with a new Crayola color topic posting each day. Join in daily, or post at your leisure.

Enter your photos, drawings, quotes, poems, stories, anything, as long as it has to do with the color of the day.

This is really my type of challenge. It’s creative and exciting but I don’t have to commit to a long-term relationship.  I’ve been wanting an excuse to start taking more photographs myself. I am hoping to buy an actual camera later this year but for now, like every other American, I have my cell phone!

Also, Jennifer has posted a calendar of colors, the color chart guide (with codes for internet!) being a few days in I see that the photos do not have to be an exact match, and that’s good.

Jan 1: Almond

Jan 2: Antique Brass

Color Your World photo challenge 2016Here’s mine:

120 Days of Crayola Colors | Memee's Musings

So you see it’s definitely not the same color as the sample image which Crayola dubbed antique brass. However, everyone has a good idea of what antique brass means.  We’ve all seen those old fake brass plates on our grandparents’ walls or at the very least in thrift stores.  In fact, someone took a picture of exactly that for this color challenge so I feel justified in submitting mine.  I did however check the color palate to see if it would fit another color for the future. It didn’t match any of those either so, here it is. I like it, I hope you do to.  Tell me what you think in the comments section at the bottom of the page!

Jan 3: Apricot

Color Your World Photo ChallengeJan 4: Aquamarine

120 Days of Crayola Colors | Memee's Musings

So that’s it, days 1-4 of the color challenge.  I don’t know if I’ll be able to do all of them but I sure had fun with this post.  Jennifer has all kinds of cool things on her site so you should really check it out thoroughly!

Errata sheet:

I misspelled Jennifer’s middle name wrong throughout this post it is Nichole with an H.  I cannot change the text on the images but the links do work, all you have to do is click the images.
