New Era Poetry

New Era Poetry | Memee's Musings

So, how about that election?  It’s a new year and a renewed commitment to my blog which was lagging there at the end of last year.  Being that we have a new exciting/controversial President-elect, a new congressional balance, and many changes in the wake I thought it appropriate that our first poetry party of this new era be about and around politics.

Yep, you heard me right.  This will either be amazing or sink into the deepest waters of blogpost detritus.  No matter what country you live in, what language you speak, your age, or political alignments please put your thoughts about anything politics into poetic form and join us for #NewEra poetry.  The best thing about poetry is that it can be freeform, #norules!

There are however rules for Memee’s Poetry Parties:

5-rules-of-mmpp

This month: Pet Poetry!

Pets! | Memee's Musings

Pets come in all shapes and sizes and personalities. Some of us have a favorite while others define their homes as a zoo.  All I know is that the make life so much richer.  I cannot imagine life without a pet by my side.  Families who don’t have pets are confusing to me.  I just don’t understand why people would want to deprive their children of the wonderful unconditional love and friendship that a pet can give, not to mention all we learn from them by being witness to their lives.

And so this month, in honor of my best friend, Forest, who has been sick this past week with his first episode of Canine Vestibular Disease, I am asking that you focus your poetry this month on your pets and that special relationship you share with them.

Submission deadline is Sunday, April 24th, 2016 at 23:55 PST.

New Beginnings Poetry Challenge

This month Memee’s Poetry Party is all about new beginnings. The idea came about because I have been spending a lot of time over the past week thinking about my friends whom I wrote about in my post Placed in the Middle. However I also realized that new beginnings do not always mean starting over, and that there are always, constantly, new beginnings sprouting up all around me. This is truly a broad theme that goes beyond the concept of When on door closes another opens. I am hoping to see a wide spectrum of entries on this #newbeginnings theme.

And speaking of new beginnings, you might also take this moment to think of some new beginning for your life or your blog’s life.  For example, you may decide you want to host weekly linkups on your blog. That would be a new beginning, right?  Well, you can use that blue froggy picture link above to do just that. Click it and see what magic happens in your blog’s future!

Hi minions and newcomers, I sure hope you are enjoying this Color Your World challenge. I know I am digging it! LOL.   It is still the first week of the challenge so you certainly have time to jump in and participate from the beginning (not that you cannot just jump in whenever you decide to, because you can!).  Just click the image above to be taken to the challenge!

I started late and ended up catching up right away. But then I decided that I liked grouping the different colors together so that is how I’ve decided to go about this challenge.  For the first installment check out my post 120 Days of Crayola where I have highlighted the colors for Jan 1-4 on a challenge running into April.

For Words Crush Wednesday I shared a wonderful Brad Paisley quote we’d all do great in remembering in the post Happy New Year! I think I have managed to post everyday so far this week and as you all know I won’t keep to this pace, but I do feel like I am having a great start to the year and am enjoying a sense of invigoration.

Now, onto the colors!

Jan 5: Asparagus Green

120 Days of Crayola Colors

120-days-of-color-badge

Yesterday I posted that I was looking forward to a brighter year in 2016 and now here I am making it happen. I joined the Color Your World Challenge posted by Jennifer Nichole Wells. You can sign up your intention at this link: Color Your World sign up.

The Color your World challenge will run January through April  each year, for 120 days, with a new Crayola color topic posting each day. Join in daily, or post at your leisure.

Enter your photos, drawings, quotes, poems, stories, anything, as long as it has to do with the color of the day.

This is really my type of challenge. It’s creative and exciting but I don’t have to commit to a long-term relationship.  I’ve been wanting an excuse to start taking more photographs myself. I am hoping to buy an actual camera later this year but for now, like every other American, I have my cell phone!

Also, Jennifer has posted a calendar of colors, the color chart guide (with codes for internet!) being a few days in I see that the photos do not have to be an exact match, and that’s good.

Jan 1: Almond

Jan 2: Antique Brass

120 Days of Crayola Colors | Memee's Musings

So you see it’s definitely not the same color as the sample image which Crayola dubbed antique brass. However, everyone has a good idea of what antique brass means.  We’ve all seen those old fake brass plates on our grandparents’ walls or at the very least in thrift stores.  In fact, someone took a picture of exactly that for this color challenge so I feel justified in submitting mine.  I did however check the color palate to see if it would fit another color for the future. It didn’t match any of those either so, here it is. I like it, I hope you do to.  Tell me what you think in the comments section at the bottom of the page!

Jan 3: Apricot

So that’s it, days 1-4 of the color challenge.  I don’t know if I’ll be able to do all of them but I sure had fun with this post.  Jennifer has all kinds of cool things on her site so you should really check it out thoroughly!

Errata sheet:

I misspelled Jennifer’s middle name wrong throughout this post it is Nichole with an H.  I cannot change the text on the images but the links do work, all you have to do is click the images.

Share Your World

Share Your World banner

Share Your World is the blogging event for bloggers who love to answer random questions. Every Monday 3 random questions are posed, an interesting prompt is proffered, as well as the opportunity to share something you are feeling grateful for.

CEE:  What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “fun”?

MEMEE: Giggling, laughing, tickling, playing, sharing… it is all part of Falling in Love. And it is wonderful, delightful, fun.

CEE: What is your favorite time of day?

MEMEE: Assuming day refers to the greater 24-hour period, my favorite is 2:00 A.M. The world has gone to sleep leaving behind silence and peace. I feel connected to the universe and to my own spirit. It is the time of day when I feel the most complete.

Make time for the quiet moments, as God whispers and the world is loud. — Author Unknown

CEE: Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want have a evening with?

MEMEE: I miss my son a lot right now because I moved 2 states away 5 weeks ago. We’re very close and this is our first real separation. It is good for us because it will allow us both to grow more independent, but it is very, very difficult.

CEE: Complete this sentence: Something that anyone can do that will guarantee my smile is…be gentle, kind, considerate and compassionate for the person standing next to you. It is a beautiful thing to witness and even more glorious to be a part of.

CEE: Bonus question: What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

MEMEE: With each new month comes opportunity. I am grateful that last week was the beginning of a new month and am looking forward to passing through the doors of opportunity that have been presenting themselves to me.
