New Era Poetry

New Era Poetry | Memee's Musings

So, how about that election?  It’s a new year and a renewed commitment to my blog which was lagging there at the end of last year.  Being that we have a new exciting/controversial President-elect, a new congressional balance, and many changes in the wake I thought it appropriate that our first poetry party of this new era be about and around politics.

Yep, you heard me right.  This will either be amazing or sink into the deepest waters of blogpost detritus.  No matter what country you live in, what language you speak, your age, or political alignments please put your thoughts about anything politics into poetic form and join us for #NewEra poetry.  The best thing about poetry is that it can be freeform, #norules!

There are however rules for Memee’s Poetry Parties:

5-rules-of-mmpp

The hashtag for this month’s party is #NewEra.  I will post a reminder for final submissions and a call for you to let your followers understand that voting occurs offsite and you’d like them to go to the punchbowl, read all the submitted poetry, and vote for their very favorite.

IMPORTANT DATES:

Submission deadline is Tuesday, January 24th, 2017, at 23:55 PST. Submit now!

Voting opens at 00:05 PST on Wednesday, January 25th and ends on Tuesday, January 31sh at 23:55 PST.*

All participants get a badge, and the favorite poem will be featured, reblogged, archived for posterity and that poet will receive a one-of-a-kind badge representative of their achievement.  Winner announced Feb 1st, 2017.

Love In Ten Lines

LOVE

                                                                           My Love, I love
                                                                       his love excites me.
                                                                            I love My Love
                                                                        his love uplifts me.
                                                                           My Love, I love
                                                                 his love strengthens me.
                                                                            I love My Love
                                                                       his love holds true.
                                                                           My Love, I love
                                                                            that I love you.

Eloise, a young amazing poet challenged me to write a poem of love in ten lines. And of course, being a challenge, I had to accept it… eventually. I say eventually because her challenge was issued four months ago. Won’t she be surprised when she sees this pop up on her feed!

And of course, there are “rules” and I know ya’ll know how I feel about rules by now! If you don’t know my philosophy on blogging rules just go to my Trophies and Awards page and choose a post!

in love

So here are the rules, for those of you who must follow them:

Here are the rules of the challenge:

) Write about love using only 10 lines.
2) Use “love” in each line.
3) Each line can only be 4 words long.
4) Nominate others who are up for the challenge.
5) Let them know about the challenge.
6) Title the post, Love in Ten Lines.
7) Include a quote about love.
8) Tag the post ‘ten’.

And because I am familiar with so many wonderful poets, I will break my own, no nominations rule and nominate:

I love him

Like the sky loves a storm

 Cover my eyes

Ignore what he wreaks on my soul

I love him

Like the earth loves the sun

I bask in his glory

Splitting wide open

Becoming undone

I need this

I need it

I need to throw myself away

To a boy who won’t even catch me

Because that is what I make love to be

it is the destroying, the extreme.

It is not the sun, warming the leaves

It is not the storm releasing the heavens

It is the fire, the blackened tree tops,

It is the burning, cracking earth.

It is.

No more.

I will not be victim

I will not open

I will not cover my eyes

I will let this need go.

Let him go.

Because love should not be a battle ground

It should not split and bleed me out

It should

Fulfil me

Not be this aching gnawing need

I love him

Like no one should ever love anyone

Because love

Should not destroy you

But make you

But in all truth

All I’ve learnt of love

Didn’t come from him

But how I felt about my own skin.

So before I let another in

I need to learn to love myself

Before I fall in love with him.

Perfect Day

perfect dayToday is the perfect day
The sweet scent in the air
The warm breeze kissing my skin
Fine ripples casting playful shadows on the pool floor
All the right songs, all the right feelings
The caressing touches of your hand against my cheek
Your fingers running through my hair
The smile that spreads across your lips
And the dimples that deepen when I say your name
All of my senses are alert, alive
Your embrace, your kiss
Your voice, your eyes
Today is the perfect day

I met a young lady late last night,

She was as brunette as she could be,

With the most piercing green eyes I’ve ever seen,

I extended my hand to ask her name,

With a snicker and a giggle she told me,

”Whatever you want it to be”,

I could sense it was all part of a game,

With a wink, she informed me if I had some money,

She would allow me to call her “honey”,

And with a wicked smile, asked me if I’d like to join her in a drink,

With a reach of my hand, she gave it a squeeze,

To me, she seemed like the ultimate tease,

With a sparkle in her eye and a smirk on her face,

She asked my story: where I came from, what I’ve done,

Things like, who am I seeing and what I hoped I would become,

When the drinks were gone and the talking done,

She slammed down her glass,

“I hope I see you again someday”, she whispered, with a little sass,

Turned and began to walk away,

As I watched the sway of her hips,

She turned once more puckering her red devilish lips,

A smirking grin spread across her face,

She squinted her gleaming emerald eyes at me,

And said her name was spelled “T – R – O – U – B – L –E. “

Love Yourself

Love Yourself is one of three winning poetry submissions for last month’s poetry party: How Do I Love Thee? It was submitted by People, Things and Life blogger, Allison Nicole.

Love Yourself

What they say isn’t true.
You don’t need to love yourself
Before someone can love you.

All the things about you that you hate
                           Your quirks, your fears,
                           Your hair, or your ears
                              Someone will love
                           And find really great.

                    Sometimes it takes acceptance
                              from someone else
                             To accept our flaws
                              And love our self.
