I’ve always liked award shows. Seeing all the amazing clothes and jewels is to me now like reading about princesses when I was a child. I am also a movie buff or, at least, I was. Life kinda got in the way and I don’t see as many as I’d like. When I was a freshman in high school I had typed out, on an old manual typewriter a numbered list of all of the movies I had seen. Of course this was before the Internet so I had to do it from memory. I had over 500 movies listed. I kinda wish I’d kept up with that just because I think it’s fascinating.

My Best Dressed Picks for the evening go to:

73rd Annual Golden Globes best dressed picks

Anyways, knowing that you would probably assume, correctly, that I also like to write down who wins what awards each season. Last night I did it differently.

I wrote down what I want to see and then a few other notes just because I knew I’d be sharing. So, here’s my jot:

TO SEE:

(movie)  Steve Jobs (Kate Winslet won)
(movie)  Spy starring Melissa McCarthy
(movie)  Carol starring Cate Blanchett
(movie)  The Hateful 8 starring Samuel L. Jackson
(movie)  The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio (he’ll likely take Oscar)
(movie)  Joy starring Jennifer Lawrence
(movie)  The Big Short starring Christian Bale
(movie)  Trainwreck starring Amy Schumer
(movie)  The Room starring Juliette Danielle
(movie)  Spotlight — amazing cast
(movie)  Infinitely Polar Bear (another bipolar movie)
(movie)  The Martian starring Matt Damon
— I read the book, hated it. But knew I’d be seeing the movie anyway!

Damn, that’s a long list! What the heck have I been doing that I haven’t seen these great movies?  Oh, yeah, that’s right… blogging!

CHECK OUT:

(television)  Transparent starring Judith Light
(television)  The Affair starring Maura Tierney (She won!)
(television)  Crazy Ex-girlfriend starring Rachel Bloom
(television)  Mr. Robot starring Christian Slater (He won!)
(television)  Penny Dreadful starring Eva Green
(television)  Better Call Saul!

OTHER RANDOM NOTES:

Lady Gaga won for AHS!*  She acts now??

Is Mad Men actor Jon Hamm the same actor who plays “Older Doctor” in A Young Doctor’s Notebook?2

BEST LINE OF THE NIGHT:

Taraji P. Henson: “Please wrap?! Wait a minute. I waited 20 years for this, you’re gonna wait! Yeah, you’re gonna give me a little more time. Yeah, my fans, they’ve been praying for this. They’re all on Twitter…”

Well, you’ve just got to see it to appreciate it fully. The best acceptance speech of the night from the mouth of Ms. Taraji P. Henson, who currently plays Cookie on the TV show, Empire. Hmm, maybe I should add that to my list of shows to check out!

BEST ACCEPTANCE SPEECH OF THE NIGHT:

I hope you enjoyed my jot!

2(I looked it up. It was indeed Jon Hamm. This was a very intelligent show. Super short. I’m hoping there will be more in the future. It stands as the only thing I have ever watched on Netflix and then used the Recommend to a Friend feature from Netflix. That says something, right?) Also, as an afterthought, perhaps I should break down and give into everyone’s recommendations to watch Mad Men.

*AHS stands for American Horror Story. It’s kinda cool in that every season it is an entirely different TV show except it reuses the actors in different parts. I appreciated the first season the most. Jessica Lange was amazing!

    1. Yes, I’ve always got to watch the red carpet show or it’s just not the same! As for Ms. Henson, I am not readily familiar with her work, though scrolling though her IMDB file I know I’ve seen her. I was so taken by her personality I intend to discover her work. She’s utterly delightful!

  1. The only movie on your lists that I’ve seen is Joy. I enjoyed it. 🙂

      1. You have a good point. I have the link to the Rules post, where the instructions are, but I see that’s not enough. I should add the instructions to all my daily posts.
I’m considering a few updates for next year’s prompts and I’m always looking for new ways to make things better. Thanks for that. 🙂
