Autism + Human Trafficking = Hooked

Tweet: I want my friends to join me in bringing awareness of autism and modern slavery in the United States by supporting the movie Hooked. Please, right now, go to https://ctt.ec/3fxCf+ and donate or just follow! And then in 2019 go see it in theaters! Thanks, friends!

Huh??

That’s right you heard me.  But what is Hooked?  Well, it used to be an award-winning book, but now it transitioning into a feature film.  The screenplay has already been honored in competitions and is going into pre-production beginning of July and I am part of it!
Autism + Human Trafficking = Hooked awards

I still don’t get it.

This should help:
Autism + Human Trafficking = Hooked poster

Hooked is the romantic dramedy of a young man whose autism prevents him from recognizing that the woman of his dreams is, in fact, a prostitute.  The film is respectful to those with autism as well as those working the streets.  The relationship between the two characters is sweet and heartwarming while shining a light on human trafficking in America.

The hooked film production is being sponsored by the 501(c)3non-profit, From the Heart Productions, so that any contributions, whether cash or non-cash, made toward Hooked are tax-deductible. From the Heart Productions has been dedicated to supporting world-changing films for over 23 years.

And just today an individual has offered to match Seed and Spark contributions made to our indie film up to $2500 between now and July 4 so that’s exciting too!  And this is what got me fired up to share this project with all of you! (I guess I have been kinda holding tight to this project and not allowing others in… I wanted it all for me and didn’t want to share.)  Not the wisest move.

Seed and Spark is a pretty cool crowdfunding site.  It is just for filmmakers and they donate cool stuff to films that gain followers (different levels of award based on how many followers we get. )  We can even get free submissions into the film festivals with 1000 followers on Seed and Spark.  Now I think that is totally awesome!  And I am hoping some of you will follow our campaign to help us get there!

And just like other crowdfunding sites, you can earn cool stuff by donating too. Have you ever dreamed of being a screenwriter? With a $200 contribution, you can join a screenwriting workshop with award-winning screenwriter Allen Wolf taking place on Saturday, Oct. 27th. And there are, of course, lot’s of other fun, exciting incentives waiting for you. But I think the greatest reward is knowing that you are helping a movie that brings American human trafficking and bond slavery, as well as autism, to the big screen.
U.S. Human Trafficking map

I want to know more about modern slavery in America!

(Excerpt from Hooked website)

“Our hope is that people who experience Hooked will be inspired to take action against trafficking. The International Labour Organization estimates that there are 40.3 million victims of human trafficking globally. 81% of them are trapped in forced labor, 25% of them are children, and 75% are women and girls. The map above only reflects cases reported to the National Human Trafficking Hotline in 2016 where the location of the potential trafficking was known. Some cases may involve more than one location.

“Here are 11 Facts about trafficking from DoSomething.org:

“1. Globally, the average cost of a slave is $90.

“2. Trafficking primarily involves exploitation which comes in many forms, including: Forcing victims into prostitution, subjecting victims to slavery or involuntary servitude and compelling victims to commit sex acts for the purpose of creating pornography.

“3. According to some estimates, approximately 80% of trafficking involves sexual exploitation, and 19% involves labor exploitation.

“4. There are approximately 20 to 30 million slaves in the world today.

“5. According to the U.S. State Department, 600,000 to 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders every year, of which 80% are female and half are children.

“6. The average age a teen enters the sex trade in the U.S. is 12 to 14-year-old. Many victims are runaway girls who were sexually abused as children.

“7. California harbors 3 of the FBI’s 13 highest child sex trafficking areas in the nation: Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego.

“8. The National Human Trafficking Hotline receives more calls from Texas than any other state in the US. 15% of those calls are from the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

“9. Between 14,500 and 17,500 people are trafficked into the U.S. each year.

“10. Human trafficking is the third largest international crime industry (behind illegal drugs and arms trafficking). It reportedly generates a profit of $32 billion every year. Of that number, $15.5 billion is made in industrialized countries.

“11. The International Labour Organization estimates that women and girls represent the largest share of forced labor victims with 11.4 million trafficked victims (55%) compared to 9.5 million (45%) men.”

Book Reviews: A New Feature for 2017!

Book Reviews: A New Feature for 2017! | Memee's Musings

Okay, so I know I’ve been away the last few weeks.  And I want to assure you that I have started some wonderful blog posts, but haven’t quite finished them or uploaded them yet (obviously).  This is just a quick one to let you know that, yes, indeed I am still alive and still active (in mind) on my blog.  And also that I have decided to start a new feature.  It won’t be on a specific day of the week, just time to time.

I love reading.  Last year I began the year wanting to read a specified number of books which I felt was reasonable and attainable.  Sadly, I started off great, but then kinda slumped off.  I found myself distracted by nothing but wasted time on stupid Facebook click-it games and binge watching Netflix.  I already log and write reviews (when I feel compelled to do so) on Goodreads.  Telling you that I will be sharing them with you will not only provide me with accountability but also commitment to reading for leisure.  And it certainly can do nothing but help with publishing blog posts.

Funny… I just realize I began a book review in 2015 for your pleasure and it is still sitting in the draft queue because something pulled me away from writing it and I never picked up where I left off.  Perhaps I shall make that my second review and just leave it “unfinished.”  What do you think?  Should I share my freshly read but incomplete review or should I re-read it so I can finish my ending thoughts on the book?  Please leave me a comment and tell me your thoughts or answer the poll question.  Thanks!

This year I have a goal of creating structure in my life.  I have a personal coach helping me to stay focused on my short-term goals and my long-term goal to be completed this year.   As part of that structure I bought myself a Passion Planner (which was a Kickstarter success in 2014) and it’s pretty thrilling.  I will review this planner /organizer, which is unlike any other planner you’ve used, soon! Although more of a product than a book it will be my first of this series.

The review… What should I do?

1.7 Million and Counting!

1-7-million-ballots-and-counting

Yes, more election stuff. But I will keep it brief. Hillary Clinton currently has a vote lead of 1.7 million more ballots cast for her than our President-Elect Donald Trump and still not all of the ballots have been counted! And despite the fact that there are many (too many) petitions out there asking the electors to flip their vote our hopes for having a sane, rational human being leading the world has gone. We are, in essence, stuck with this bully to lead the world. Countries which once looked to us for guidance may choose differently, and I wouldn’t blame them in the least. Our soon-to-be president  will in all likelihood choose 3-4 Supreme Court Justices who will dictate the laws of our country. His leadership will undoubtedly adjust our sails and send us on a new course the likes of which we can only imagine. And will have ramifications for decades to come.

We cannot change this fact, but we can try to protest in small ways our outrage, our fears and our strength and determination. And so I ask those of you who are concerned about the future of America for yourselves or your children or your grandchildren, for your friends, for your neighbors, or for your co-workers, please consider participating in this quiet yet moving demonstration which will hurt no one and cost you less than $2.

This is not my original idea. I am simply sharing it (thus the quotes) and a few minor tweaks on my part. However, for the safety and security of the creators I am not citing the originators. It is their wish that we all who feel like participating, share and show support.

“Join in and send a postcard directly to Trump! Here are the basic instructions to participate:

“** IMPORTANT – Don’t mail your card until SAT. NOV. 26th **

“1. Get a postcard from your state – any picture that represents your state.

“2. In the message section, write this simple 2-word message: NOT BANNON!

“3. Sign your name if you wish to do so.

“4. Address it as follows:
Donald Trump
c/o The Trump Organization
725 Fifth Avenue
New York, NY 10022

“5. Affix a stamp – you can use a 35 cent postcard stamp, or a normal letter stamp.

“6. Take a picture of your postcard that you can share on social media using the hashtag #stopbannon . PLEASE DO NOT USE A REFERENCE TO HILLARY CLINTON OF ANY KIND. She is not responsible for this and should be kept far away from any ramifications.

“7. Drop it in the mail! We are aiming to get these mailed between Saturday, Nov 26th and Monday, Nov. 28th to create a concentrated avalanche of postcards. But if you can’t send yours until later, don’t let that stop you.

“Now invite, invite, invite! The more voices we can get in the mail, from the more states, the better. To make it go viral we will all need to share the details with our sphere of influence in whatever ways we feel comfortable. Feel free to copy and paste the details or even post your own event. The more the merrier!

“If you are unfamiliar with Steve Bannon, he is a white nationalist who is also the head of a media company that proliferates alt-right (misogynistic, homophobic, anti-semitic and white supremacist) views.” He was the first hire to the Trump Administration, with no need for congressional review and approval. He will be the Chief White House Strategist and President Trump’s senior counselor. Do you remember how Dick Cheney was the puppetmaster to George W. Bush… well, this time it will be worse. It will be Steve Bannon.

So please join with me in sending a postcard from your area, anywhere in the world, to Mr. Trump with the clear and succinct message: NOT BANNON!

Please help keep the American Dream alive. We are a melting pot of nationalities and the differences we bring is one of the main reasons we are such a great nation!
