Autism + Human Trafficking = Hooked

Tweet: I want my friends to join me in bringing awareness of autism and modern slavery in the United States by supporting the movie Hooked. Please, right now, go to and donate or just follow! And then in 2019 go see it in theaters! Thanks, friends!

That’s right you heard me.  But what is Hooked?  Well, it used to be an award-winning book, but now it transitioning into a feature film.  The screenplay has already been honored in competitions and is going into pre-production beginning of July and I am part of it!
Autism + Human Trafficking = Hooked awards

I still don’t get it.

This should help:
Autism + Human Trafficking = Hooked poster

Hooked is the romantic dramedy of a young man whose autism prevents him from recognizing that the woman of his dreams is, in fact, a prostitute.  The film is respectful to those with autism as well as those working the streets.  The relationship between the two characters is sweet and heartwarming while shining a light on human trafficking in America.

The hooked film production is being sponsored by the 501(c)3non-profit, From the Heart Productions, so that any contributions, whether cash or non-cash, made toward Hooked are tax-deductible. From the Heart Productions has been dedicated to supporting world-changing films for over 23 years.

And just today an individual has offered to match Seed and Spark contributions made to our indie film up to $2500 between now and July 4 so that’s exciting too!  And this is what got me fired up to share this project with all of you! (I guess I have been kinda holding tight to this project and not allowing others in… I wanted it all for me and didn’t want to share.)  Not the wisest move.

Seed and Spark is a pretty cool crowdfunding site.  It is just for filmmakers and they donate cool stuff to films that gain followers (different levels of award based on how many followers we get. )  We can even get free submissions into the film festivals with 1000 followers on Seed and Spark.  Now I think that is totally awesome!  And I am hoping some of you will follow our campaign to help us get there!

And just like other crowdfunding sites, you can earn cool stuff by donating too. Have you ever dreamed of being a screenwriter? With a $200 contribution, you can join a screenwriting workshop with award-winning screenwriter Allen Wolf taking place on Saturday, Oct. 27th. And there are, of course, lot’s of other fun, exciting incentives waiting for you. But I think the greatest reward is knowing that you are helping a movie that brings American human trafficking and bond slavery, as well as autism, to the big screen.
U.S. Human Trafficking map

I want to know more about modern slavery in America!

(Excerpt from Hooked website)

“Our hope is that people who experience Hooked will be inspired to take action against trafficking. The International Labour Organization estimates that there are 40.3 million victims of human trafficking globally. 81% of them are trapped in forced labor, 25% of them are children, and 75% are women and girls. The map above only reflects cases reported to the National Human Trafficking Hotline in 2016 where the location of the potential trafficking was known. Some cases may involve more than one location.

“Here are 11 Facts about trafficking from

“4. There are approximately 20 to 30 million slaves in the world today.

Falkner’s Dreamland

He was caressing her beautiful soft and warm skin, kissing her on her neck while inhaling the fragrance of her hair. The sun was shining, warming his back and when he looked in her eyes he could see the reflection of the few clouds above.

“Mr Falkner!”

The voice forced him back to reality.

“Yes?” he managed to actually answer.

“Mr Falkner! I asked you what your take of this subject is!” She glanced at him, waiting for her student to finally answer her question.

He looked at his professor, trying hard to remember what she was talking about before he drifted off into his dreamworld where they were so much closer than in real life. Continue reading

Love In Ten Lines

Eloise, a young amazing poet challenged me to write a poem of love in ten lines. And of course, being a challenge, I had to accept it… eventually. I say eventually because her challenge was issued four months ago. Won’t she be surprised when she sees this pop up on her feed!

And of course, there are “rules” and I know ya’ll know how I feel about rules by now! If you don’t know my philosophy on blogging rules just go to my Trophies and Awards page and choose a post!

He wished, he could share it with her though. While his eyes scanned the ocean he wondered where she would be right now, what she was doing and whom she was with.

Caroline was never far from his thoughts. From the very first moment he caught her smile, heard her laugh, he was smitten. Such an old-fashioned word, “smitten,” but it fit. For Caroline, he did not feel the great pang of lust that had mislead him toward doomed relationships with tragic women. Caroline was different than any woman he’d ever known and when it came to thoughts of Caroline really all he wanted was just to hold her hand, have long talks, laugh, smile, share… and maybe if he was really lucky, make a life together, not today, but someday. A Matter of Perfect Timing

Home at lastShe carefully opened the door, not sure what to expect. It had been a while since she has visited. Nothing was the way she remembered and when her eyes finally got adjusted to the dark, what she saw made her shiver… it was him, it was Nathan, the one who got away, the first one there ever was and the first one there would ever be. Nathan Webb, her first love standing there in the doorway 18 years after they had last seen one another. Two lifetimes standing in the gap resting there between them and yet it was still there, that tugging of the heart strings, the vibration of two hundred butterfly wings flapping through their stomachs making each of them feel alive with wonder, excitement, fear, lust and longing. They looked quietly at one another for a moment as they spoke deeply to one another’s soul though they spoke with no words at all. Their eyes said everything that needed to be said. I love you. I’ve always loved you. I will always love you. And now the time had come, the time that was always meant to be, it is their time, and so they step toward one another and as their chests kiss in the warm embrace he whispers to her, “Finally.”

The above short story was inspired by Author S B Mazing’s blog event Finish It, which is a Blogging201 assignment we’re asked to do to further expand our experiences and our community networks. Join her party to experiment with a story prompt and give your fingers a shot at short story telling… every Wednesday she’ll provide a new prompt!

Also, if you’re in Blogging201, please consider hopping on over to my assignment event and give your hand a whirl at poetry (you’ve got ten days to work it out!), come on, you can do it! The theme is there all you gotta do is figure out what you want it to say and, well, say it! I will do this the middle of every month, the poetic theme will change each time.  On twitter watch for #memeespoetryparties                          Thanks for reading!

Dream Reader You’re My Dream Weaver

DreamweaverIt has been twelve days since you married Kristyna and of those twelve days we have spent ten of them communicating via email or chat. What is wrong with that picture? I can feel myself softening — and what is wrong with that picture? — my resilience toward you. I should say my will is weakening, but I don’t want to admit to a “negative,” instead I choose the euphemism, “softening.” It is an easier pill to swallow that way; however, it also turns the entire situation into a white lie of sorts. But it’s “just a little white lie.” I tell myself. Intellectually I know that this is the case, it is a lie not meant to mislead or deceive you, but a lie because I am downplaying the reality of our situation. I am subconsciously finding ways to forgive and forget your transgression against me, that betrayal that sliced through me like a lightning strike splitting a tree in half. My world was rocked by the visceral agony I felt coursing throughout my body. And yet I catch myself consciously trying to find an excuse to allow myself to believe it is perfectly acceptable to let you back into my bed… perhaps even the “right thing to do.” I mean, we are in love, aren’t we? Still? I know I am still very much in love with you: mind, body, and soul. Continue reading
