Partiers Partying at Memee’s Poetry Parties

Badge awarded to Blair King
Badge awarded to Blair King for “Summer Days”

Partiers partying at #memeespoetryparties is what is bringing me thanks today.  I love reading all of the poetic submissions and reblogging each month’s winners, creating their winning badges and seeing them displayed on their own blogs.  I love knowing that people are enjoying my once monthly linky parties, that I have created a forum where poet’s can come together for a meet and greet and begin developing friendships while being inspired by one another.  I love that all of the work I put into putting Memee’s Poetry Parties together each month is valued and appreciated by others.

I made it one of my most important blogging goals for July 2015 to July 2016 to increase #memeespoetryparties presence on the web so that everyone continues to benefit by increased participation, increased traffic, and increased inspiration and satisfaction for my partiers who step up to the mike as well as those who just drop in to cast their votes for favorite poem. It is my goal that by July 2016 #memeespoetryparties will have a minimum of 100 submissions each and every month. At that time, tangible awards will be given to the top 3 vote-getters each month. I am super-excited about this and hope you are too!

If you haven’t come to one of my parties, you really should. If you like this post or have liked other posts about my linky parties you really should join us.  It doesn’t matter that you are far away or have just begun to write, it doesn’t matter if you’re young or old, man or woman, black, white, or foreign born writing in a language other than English.  This poetry party is for everyone, all ages, all skill levels, all nationalities.  You will meet and be inspired by other bloggers, gain new traffic to your website, receive party favors, badges, and drink from our virtual punchbowl.

So come join us for this month’s linky party at #memeespoetryparties! This month’s theme will be posted tomorrow, Friday, August 14, 2015.  And I am excited for Sunday when I share with you Blair’s badge-earning poem: Summer Days. If you love it, check out more of her poetry at People, Things and Life.

Poets: Last Call!

That’s right, poets, you’ve heard me. This is your last call for submitting your original #summertime blues poetry.  If you really want to make an impression show up before that submission window closes.  Once it does the doors will be locked and the windows sealed, even a secret code won’t let late arrivals into the party. So don’t delay you’ve only got 1 day and 8 hours left to make it to Memee’s party platform. Votes for best poem will be cast July 26th-30th.

Submit now!

Between July 26-30 use the link below to cast your vote for the best poem.

Sunshine, Oh Sunshine

Sunshine, Oh Sunshine

Sunshine, oh Sunshine
your beams are everywhere
I shield my eyes
yet still you are there.

Sunshine, oh Sunshine
aren’t you aware
I live where I live
because your heat I can’t bear?

Sunshine, oh Sunshine
please go away
leave me in peace
before I wither away!

Sunshine, oh Sunshine
won’t you hear my plea
or is it simply that you
think so little of me?

Sunshine, oh Sunshine
you’re filling my eyes
Sunshine, oh Sunshine
you’re making me cry!

I am a total beginner-beginner at poetry and created Memee’s Poetry Parties in an attempt to challenge myself (or more accurately force myself to be challenged) at this form of writing. It does not come easily to me at all. If you enjoy poetry and want to give a poke at it I encourage you to join my monthly poetry party (link ups) whether you’re brand new to poetry and writing or a veteran writer we all learn from and appreciate one another.

So if you liked my poem I hope you’ll consider joining this month’s party, #summertimeblues!

The beautiful image above came from a post advertising Sunshine Fest, an annual 5K run and festival in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Van and Dee Larson established the Sunshine Memorial Foundation after losing their beautiful daughter, “Sunshine” who passed away from heat stroke and dehydration while hiking in Arizona in 2007. She was only 31.  To learn more about the non profit foundation, Sunshine Fest and their newest vision: Sunshine Hospitality Home, please visit their website Sunshine Memorial Foundation. They also have a Sunshine Blog, a Facebook presence as well as Instagram and Twitter accounts.

I am especially excited about their works towards the creation of Sunshine Hospitality House because as some of you have read, while my grandmother was here visiting with me she had a traumatic fall and has been in hospital and now a nursing home ever since. If I didn’t have a spare bedroom, if it had happened on any other vacation my aunt and mother would be without a place to stay while Grama recuperates enough to get back on a plane to return to Illinois where she lives. I hope the Larsons’ good work, in memory of their daughter is a great success and like sunshine does, spreads across the land!

Have you got the #summertimeblues?

Every year summer brings excitement and some years sorrow. So whether it’s summer love or summer heartache that inspires you, I am hoping you will join us for #memeespoetryparties this month and every month. Anyone is welcome to submit, no matter the age, the language, or the skill level.

There are 5 simple rules to follow as well as door prizes and bragging rights. You can find the rules and answers to all of your questions at: Memee’s Poetry Parties. There is a lot of information to be found on that page, but if you just want to submit your poem or vote for someone, scroll toward the bottom to find the party links.

Submission deadline is July 25th and if you’re anything like me, summer means more activites so be sure and mark the dates on your publishing calendars. And remember, if you want your fan’s support be sure and share this link with them while voting is open, July 26-30. Door prizes will be delivered via email. Good Luck!

Now I’ve got to go get to work on my poem. Hope to see you around the punch bowl!

#Memeespoetryparties — Solved Problem!

problem solvedFirst I want to apologize to everyone who has tried to join my blogging event How Do I Love Thee Poetry Party. Being a new blogger comes with a learning curve that affects not only me but all of you, my readers as well. However, the problem IS fixed. It’s not the solution I have hoped for and I have requested more information from the web host to see if there is a better workaround for future poetry parties.

Thank you everyone for your patience in this matter, I have been having fun reading the entries that did go up before the meltdown and receiving all of your positive feedback. I want to give an individual shout-out to Jarrod who’s blog is The Haunted Lullaby for being the first to bring the problem to my attention and without frustration continued for several hours to get his poem submitted! Jarrod, your effort will remain with me, inspiring me to not give up when these blogging obstacles pop up and stick their tongues at at!

Okay, so here’s what happened:

Blogging 201 assignment: Make the Most of events. Okay, so finding events and participating in them was pretty easy and definitely fun. So I decided heck, I love events, let’s put one together (I mean, that’s how I will get the most from the assignment, right?) So I spend literally 5 hours creating my perfect event… the poetry party. I realized that most of the people I follow in my reader include poetry in some of their postings and a lot of people I follow are also relationship minded so I thought, heck, this will easily attract people (of course I forgot that just because I am following those people that does not mean that they are necessarily the people who are following me back!) LOL

Okay, so I got my party created. I posted about it and come midnight my event went live. I was super excited and couldn’t wait for morning to see how many poets I’d attracted. I woke up and immediately hopped on to discover I’d gotten my first bite… success!

And then nothing happened for more than 14 hours… WAHH!!!

But then it began, I got three more people all within about an hour of each other and a whole lot more interest and likes and comments on my post. One of my amazing party guests then asked me, “How do we vote?” Oh, my gosh, I had no idea! I hadn’t researched it enough to know the ins-and-outs of the programming, I was just so excited to get it up and going!

So I sent a help ticket in to the administrators and poked around on my own yesterday trying to figure it out. I did. Or at least I thought I did. There was a little section of my event creation form that asked what date voting should begin. That seemed like a dumb question to me, when my event goes live, duh! So I typed in the date and that was the end of that. I let her know how to vote and that you can only vote for one entrant (it’s in the coding) by clicking on the little heart showing on the person’s thumbnail.

And then I heard from Jarrod. I poked around some more to see if I could recreate the problem he was having so I could problem solve and help. I couldn’t seem to figure out why the link-up box wasn’t working (all you need to do is paste your poem’s link in the box, enter your email address and click submit.) Should have only taken a few seconds. Poor patient Jarrod, undetermined to give up he had a friend try… nope, nothing.

And now it is day 3 of my event which stands with 6 poems (one of them is mine and does not count for prizes). In the night, as I slept, others tried to upload and had the same problem as Jarrod.

But now I am pleased to report that the problem is FIXED. I received a response to that initial ticket I submitted to the site administrator — remember that ticket one asking how does a person vote… and part of Maria’s response was, “please take care on when the voting starts. As soon as the voting starts, the “add your link” button is removed. Voting then closes on “end date”.

And so I had my answer. I had, in trying to help my guest understand how to vote (and learning myself), disabled the ability for anyone to join my event. My apologies.

So, I have adjusted the settings.

You may now link-up!

Voting is disabled until the 18th. When voting begins no new submissions can be taken in. The event will end on the 20th. Winners will receive their door prizes and acknowledgment glory.

When you follow the link to my event page, you’ll see a list of the rules, followed by thumbnail images for each submission and beneath that is a blue button that says, “add link”.

I have to go to work now, but will return tonight to update my PAGE to reflect the newly ascertained information. I’m looking forward to seeing new additions to the event and following and tweeting your efforts!

Have fun and good luck!
