About the author:
I am a survivor of incest, teen pregnancy, emotional abuse and multiple family estrangements. It sent me to the edge of suicide but I stepped back and have been finding my way ever since. I have begun the healing process and now try to share with others in hopes of making sure no one feels alone in their pain.  In “Scars” I address emotional scars, self-doubt and internal struggles.

SCARS

What to make of scars,
so pitiful and weak.
Oh, physical scars,
how I envy you,
those of skin and bone.
You can be seen.
You scab over, heal,
pain ultimately subsides.
But oh, the scars of the heart,
they’re jagged, deep –
I’m amazed my heart still beats.
You’re hidden, unseen,
with pain that never quite
goes away.
Emotional scars,
oh how you lie,
pretending to be healed
while cruelly laughing,
waiting to rip open,
to make me doubt the progress
I have made.
You shout, “Look at me!
Remember me?”
Yes, I remember you well.
You remind me where I’ve been.
You helped make me who I am.
But you don’t own me anymore –
your time is past.
You are only a scar, not
my innermost being.

New Beginnings

New Beginnings | Memee's Musings

Not all beginnings start on a new path.
Barriers between here and there
A single span bridges the cross over.
Covered intentions lead to other side.
The mystery in those strange lands
Beckons from inside and afar.
Shadow currents twist and turn
Below runs a subtle river

Wooden beams grown around me
Wind peers through the windows
The cross breeze tries to distract
A clear view of a foreign land
The challenges lie in wait.
Direct wolves surely slumber
In the woods sunlight passes
Freely I move to new Beginnings.

This beautiful expression of New Beginnings as told through the framework of nature was voted as last month’s favorite poem at the March Memee’s Poetry Party.  I send congratulations and gratitude out to Mark and hope that you will visit his site, Coloring Outside the Lines. He travels the world and takes marvelous photos and writes posts which I enjoy. If you enjoyed this piece of poetry, please visit his site and let him know!

Tomorrow is white

blank

a clean slate

that I eagerly await

with trepid silence

I will walk

forward

unknowing what

my future

holds.

☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ It’s not yet too late to join the linky party! ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀ ☀

I am a total beginner at poetry and created Memee’s Poetry Parties in an attempt to challenge myself (or more accurately force myself to be challenged) at this form of writing. It does not come easily to me at all. If you enjoy poetry and want to give a poke at it, I encourage you to join my monthly poetry party, whether you’re brand new to poetry and writing or a veteran writer we all learn from and appreciate one another. It is my hope that we will all find inspiration and encouragement, and make lasting friendships while growing our writing skills and our blogs.

So if you liked my poem I hope you’ll consider joining this month’s linky party: New Beginnings.

Please tag your post with #newbeginnings and #memeespoetryparties.

And don’t forget to pick up your participation badge here!

New Beginnings Poetry Challenge

This month Memee’s Poetry Party is all about new beginnings. The idea came about because I have been spending a lot of time over the past week thinking about my friends whom I wrote about in my post Placed in the Middle. However I also realized that new beginnings do not always mean starting over, and that there are always, constantly, new beginnings sprouting up all around me. This is truly a broad theme that goes beyond the concept of When on door closes another opens. I am hoping to see a wide spectrum of entries on this #newbeginnings theme.

And speaking of new beginnings, you might also take this moment to think of some new beginning for your life or your blog’s life.  For example, you may decide you want to host weekly linkups on your blog. That would be a new beginning, right?  Well, you can use that blue froggy picture link above to do just that. Click it and see what magic happens in your blog’s future!

Submission deadline is Thursday, March 24th, 2016 at 23:55 PST.

Voting opens at 00:05 PST on Friday, March 25th and ends on Thursday, March 31st at 23:55 PST.*

MEMEE’S POETRY PARTY RULES OF CONDUCT:

1. No naughty thumbnail pictures. (This will disqualify you.)

2. Submit the URL address to your relevant original poem.

3. Please try to visit at least two party guests, leave them a nice compliment or begin a friendly discussion with them. It’s a party: Mingle, people, mingle!

4. This party’s unique hashtag is #newbeginnings, use it. Link back to me and, of course, if you tweet me, I’ll tweet you… tweet, tweet! (Even if you don’t have a twitter account please use the hashtag as a blog tag.)

5. Let your followers know that you’re partying at Memee’s Musings and they’re invited to drop in and join the party! Just give them this direct link: http://www.inlinkz.com/new/view.php?id=616703 or send them to the Current Party tab to read this post https://memeesmusings.com/category/current-party/.

Spreading the word about your linking up is also the perfect excuse to show off your participation badge!  Because I do not vote it is important that you participate in promoting the event. The more word of mouth the more activity and the greater the traffic impact on everyone’s website. Also, remember, once we start hitting 100 bloggers linking up then tangible, in-your-hand prizes will be awarded to the winners along with their trophy and bragging rights.  So challenge your fellow poets to party with us and solicit your followers to read all of the poems and vote their favorite (while the voting window is open).

What, you don’t have friends?

no friends

Every month here at Memee’s Musings I host a link up for poets. I supply the poetry theme keeping everyone’s poetry along a similiar vain. I get great poetry submitted. This month however, crickets!   I think everyone must be reading Carlos’ fabulous submission and are conceding to him for the win.

Today is the last day to submit (up until 3 minutes to midnight PST). So please, join Carlos and I in expressing our appreciation for friends… or tell us about the friends who are untrue. Write your poem however you like and then submit it at the link up, today, Wednesday, Feb. 24.

Submit now!

Voting opens at 00:05 PST on February 25th and ends on Monday, February 29th at 23:55 PST.*
