In Turbulent Times Turn To Peace | Memee's Musings

I don’t really have any more to say than what is conveyed by my title and chosen quote. Between the two, everything that needs to be said, is being said.

Peace out!

Book Reviews: A New Feature for 2017!

Book Reviews: A New Feature for 2017! | Memee's Musings

Okay, so I know I’ve been away the last few weeks.  And I want to assure you that I have started some wonderful blog posts, but haven’t quite finished them or uploaded them yet (obviously).  This is just a quick one to let you know that, yes, indeed I am still alive and still active (in mind) on my blog.  And also that I have decided to start a new feature.  It won’t be on a specific day of the week, just time to time.

I love reading.  Last year I began the year wanting to read a specified number of books which I felt was reasonable and attainable.  Sadly, I started off great, but then kinda slumped off.  I found myself distracted by nothing but wasted time on stupid Facebook click-it games and binge watching Netflix.  I already log and write reviews (when I feel compelled to do so) on Goodreads.  Telling you that I will be sharing them with you will not only provide me with accountability but also commitment to reading for leisure.  And it certainly can do nothing but help with publishing blog posts.

Funny… I just realize I began a book review in 2015 for your pleasure and it is still sitting in the draft queue because something pulled me away from writing it and I never picked up where I left off.  Perhaps I shall make that my second review and just leave it “unfinished.”  What do you think?  Should I share my freshly read but incomplete review or should I re-read it so I can finish my ending thoughts on the book?  Please leave me a comment and tell me your thoughts or answer the poll question.  Thanks!

This year I have a goal of creating structure in my life.  I have a personal coach helping me to stay focused on my short-term goals and my long-term goal to be completed this year.   As part of that structure I bought myself a Passion Planner (which was a Kickstarter success in 2014) and it’s pretty thrilling.  I will review this planner /organizer, which is unlike any other planner you’ve used, soon! Although more of a product than a book it will be my first of this series.

The review… What should I do?

And the nominations go to…

And the Nominees Are... | Memee's Musings

The Oscars are tonight, are you excited? Do you and your friends get all gowned up, drink champagne and watch together?  If not, you should!  It’s a lot of fun, especially when there are games and prizes involved (and did I mention the gowns and the champagne?!)

I love Awards Season. Always have. And if you’re a regular reader, a member of Memee’s Minion Army, then you already know from reading my Golden Globes Jot that I love watching the red carpet show just as much! Well, this post is my red carpet and these are your nominations, not for the Oscar but for the One Lovely Blog Award! click that link to see my acceptance speech which preceded this announcement, lists the rules, and contains your trophy!

2015s Best of Memee’s Meandering Mind

Best of 2015

Happy first Sunday of 2016, minions!  I hope you’re all excited to see what this year will bring.  I know I am! I am expecting big, better and brighter things and hope that will come to you as well.

I have reviewed the stats for Memee’s Musings and compiled this year’s Best of 2015 collection.  These posts are chosen based on things like traffic, likes, comments, shares and then, of course, I throw one in that I think deserves to be on that list.

You can always find the best of Memee’s Meandering Mind under the About tab at the top of every page, just hover your mouse over and you’ll see the link for each year.  The eight best received posts of 2015 are all listed so go check it out! And please feel free, if you’d like, to check out the Best of 2014 collection. There are nine in that set and my blog was very different when I first started out as I was in a very different place in my life.

Extensively reviewing the stats for 2015 I also learned that overall you love it when I try my hand at storytelling. So I am going to make a real effort to do a lot more of that in 2016.  I even joined a fiction writing critique group via meetup.com so I can continue to grow and improve… for me and for you! Last month I wrote (in case you missed it) Rekindled Youth. Please check it out and let me know what you think. I think there may be more story there for me to play with.  You can follow the link, type the name in the search box or look under the storytelling tab for Memee’s Supershort Stories!

Happy New Year and happy blogging, ya’ll!

Love’n Hate Poetry Challenge

Join the Party Now!

If you read my entry in last month’s success-themed poetry challenge, Sometimes I Feel, then you probably already have an inkling that I have been in a love-hate relationship with my blog for the past 4 to 5 months.

When I first began my blog I was writing for me. I was living in turmoil and pain and had to excise it so that I could continue to go on breathing. I wrote about my pain and then I joined the Blogging U courses and wrote stuff for that as well. And I received a lot of feedback. I fell in love with that feedback and learned to hunger for it. I felt like I was no longer alone, that people cared about me and I began to heal. However after my courses ended and the angst receded, away went the sense of community I had fallen in love with and begun writing for. Continue reading

Sharing is Caring – a blogging #MeetandGreet

#MeetandGreet introductionsI joined my first meet and greet over at Dream Big, Dream Often who had reblogged from Lessons from my Daughter. There were only 4 simple rules, and I am not one for rules, the less the better and I modify when I must. In this case, I modified only the “reblog” by creating my own post and pinging the originators, otherwise I stuck to the rules… this time.

The Rules

I am not big on rules but here is how I see this going.

1. Like this posting.

2. In the comments, introduce yourself, put a link to your blog (if you have one) and put a link to a blog you enjoy reading.

3. Reblog this post so more people can see it and share their blogs.

4. Come back and discover new blogs.

I promise to visit every link posted in the comments or pingbacks and I will read your posts, like or comment and, hopefully, find many great blogs to follow!

My introduction read as follows:

“My name is BriannaLouise Memee and my blog is Memee’s Musings. I can be found on WordPress, Facebook, Tumblr, Blogher, Pinterest and Twitter. Last year was full of tragedy and life changes… it’s a familiar story: Blogging helped me to become whole again.

“My tagline remains as true today as it did when I began: “Thoughts about life, death and the world around me.” Memee’s Musings is not a blog that rotates around my personal pain although you can find it weaved within.

I host a once monthly linky party for poets, #memeespoetryparties. I advocate for domestic animals on Saturdays, post my favorite quotes on Wednesdays, share gratitude on Thursdays and feature guest bloggers on Sundays. While on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays you can find postings about anything from what his happening in the world around me to mental health to random thoughts to poetry and flash fiction.

“Although you won’t find any parenting advice, book reviews or recipes on my blog (unless they are proffered by guest bloggers) I view my blog as a smorgasbord of delights which I hope you will enjoy as much as I do!

“I am amazed by Allison’s poetry found at: People, Things and Life.

“I am inspired by Chris at: Surviving the Spector.

“I find community through Ember’s life shares on Brighton Bipolar.

“And AuthorSBMazing challenges my imagination, inspiration and writing growth with her Finish It! events on her blog: Author S B Mazing.

“I hope you’ll love what you find on my blog and value what you find on the blogs I am suggesting!”

It’s your turn, just do it!

#WCW On Staying True

If you wanna play #wcw with me, here's your badge!
If you wanna play #wcw with me, here’s your badge!

So I just finished doing a bunch of research on how to write a blog that demands attention and gains the reward of high traffic and my conclusion is:  What the heck is the point of writing my blog if I must abandon who I am and what matters to me?  Apparently, as a blogger, it is my duty to write for my readers what is important to them and deliver it in the manner they demand.

Well, I am not going to do it!

I started this blog to help me overcome multiple personal tragedies in 2014. This blog is written for me: my mind, my heart and my soul.  Receiving your likes, feedback, encouraging words and developing friendships is plenty reward for me… I don’t need to concentrate on increasing my numbers, it would be nice but not at the expense of my personal needs and pleasure.

I give a lot of myself away to others in the outside world, in the blogging world I deserve to be true to me!
