#WCW on Opportunity

When things happen in our lives, bringing disappointment into our hearts we lean on our friends for support and compassion. And more likely than not we have heard or even offered this adage (or a bastardized version thereof) with the desire it will help the person find hope. I know I say it to myself to kickstart my brain into positive thinking: “When one door closes, another door opens.”

But did you know that is not the entire quote? In fact, the point, nay, the meaning of the quote as originally stated has been dropped. I discovered this while working on the post about this month’s poetry party and wanted to get the wording correct as I’ve heard many bastardized versions and wanted to get it right. I was surprised first by who said it. And then, of course, that there was more to it. And I like the entire quote. I like it a lot because it is powerful and true.

I am a person who rarely lives in the present. I spend a lot of time thinking about the past and a lot of time pondering about the future… which is actually quite ridiculous because we can never imagine what the future truly holds. I like the quote because it reminds me that we must remember where to focus our lives and spend our time.

Happy New Year!

Well, here we are just a day away from completing the first week of this new year, 2016! So far I’d say my year is working out pretty well. I really hope yours is as well.

Words Crush Wednesday is still on the menu for 2016 and with this first Wednesday of the year I give a quote by American country singer, Brad Paisley:

Brad Paisley quote

It does not matter that today is not January first. Each day is a new day and can be the beginning of a new 365-day cycle. So make the most of it and always try to create the best regardless of the circumstances surrounding you.

This Month on GoFundMe: Mental Health

quote-on-stigma-health-57-healthyplace
I do not know if you are aware but I have a link here on Memee’s Musings called This Month on GoFundMe, it is listed in the sidebar under Linky-Dinks Blogroll. Every month or so I feature a different Go Fund Me crowdfunding cause, always something or someone that I personally find worthy. Sometimes they are people I know and sometimes they are not.

This month I decided to highlight a young woman who is part of a social group that I am in. I have not yet met Lourdes yet personally though my online interactions with her have always been nothing short of sweet, kind, and respectful. I like her.

So when I learned recently that she had been hospitalized and diagnosed with a mental health disorder my heart went out to her. I carry a stigma too. It is not an easy life, living with mental illness. I stumbled upon her GoFundMe post yesterday asking for help during this transition period. She has been placed on unpaid medical leave at her job and thus her income and medical insurance are instantly gone, but still must pay her housing costs as we all do. And so she has become this month’s GoFundMe cause. Please read Lourde’s story here.

How to Play #WCW

If you’d like to play along in Words Crush Wednesday (#wcw) just cut/paste and follow these simple rules:

(1) Always pingback to the site you discovered #wcw on with every Words Crush Wednesday post. In this case, that’s me: memeesmusings.com!

(2) In your post, use the badge they’ve created just for you – In this case, you’d use the Panda badge (size doesn’t matter)

(3) Tag your post #wcw so other players can find you

(4) Optional: When you are ready, create your own badge for those you inspire to play Words Crush Wednesday. If you do not create your own badge then your inspirees MUST use the badge from the blogger who inspired you, so be sure to make it easy for them to find.

That’s pretty easy.

So, for example, my first two #wcw posts I had not yet created a badge to pass along to my teammates so those posts have the #wcw badge that was created by Lisa who I discovered the game through. When I had decided I liked the Words Crush Wednesday posts I committed to making a badge to pass along to all of you. I used Canva.com to do it. If you haven’t discovered Canva yet, it’s a great tool, you’ll use it a lot.

Choose a quote. Write your post. Cut & Paste the rules listed above into your post (but be sure to change the line “In this case that’s me, Memee’s Musings” to represent you and your website. Insert the #WCW badge and create a pingback to the referrer as a footnote to your post. I keep the rules and footnote together so it’s one simple cut and paste each week. The badge changes sizes and moves around my post depending on how things look.

Want to see some examples? Here’s some quotes:

Dr. Seuss
John Wayne
C.S. Lewis

Did you see how my pingback is tiny and doesn’t distract yet adheres to the rules? The cool thing is when you use the pingback I can read your post and maybe even feature it on a Sunday Calling Card. And the badge, well, let’s be honest: it’s a cute, fun way to advertise your blog on someone else’s post. So I really encourage you to create a #wcw badge with your blog name on it to use after your first #wcw so that your readers will spread you around like butter! 🙂

#WCW Hook ’em with a quote

“I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.”
― Douglas Adams, The Salmon of Doubt

It is Words Crush Wednesday once again and I find myself busy with the Writing 101 course that is put out by Blogging U.  So last week when I saw that one of our assignments was to “Hook ’em with a quote” I knew immediately I’d be putting that assignment on hold until now.

The quote I have chosen jumped out at me as

  1. Fun
  2. Relevant
  3. Timely

And here’s why:  I had just moments before been reading through my classmates submissions for the day and ran across Jim’s post entitled, “Writing 101, Catching Up, Day 3 and Day 4.” Like Jim, I didn’t get started on my assignments on Day One, however I feel no rush to “catch up” with my peers.  I have been doing the assignments out of order when they appeal or inspire me.  I have always wanted to do things my way.  A scrapbooking class?  You bet, I’m there; can’t wait!  Thanks for the materials… Ah look, how cute, you all did the exact same page!  Nope, not me.  I gotta be uniquely me.  My vocation requires strict adherence to guidelines and deadlines so when it comes to my avocations I just gotta let my hair down and swing from the trees like Jane.

Woosh!

#WCW…Who’s Confused?

#WCW... Who's Confused? | Memee's Musings

Confusion. It is such a part of our everyday lives. We are confused by our emotions. We are confused by other people’s actions. We are confused by internal conflicts over right and wrong as well as conflicting societal messages. Even those things with a steadfast, never changing result can confuse us.

Or is it just me?

#WCW On Staying True

If you wanna play #wcw with me, here's your badge!
If you wanna play #wcw with me, here’s your badge!

So I just finished doing a bunch of research on how to write a blog that demands attention and gains the reward of high traffic and my conclusion is:  What the heck is the point of writing my blog if I must abandon who I am and what matters to me?  Apparently, as a blogger, it is my duty to write for my readers what is important to them and deliver it in the manner they demand.

Well, I am not going to do it!

I started this blog to help me overcome multiple personal tragedies in 2014. This blog is written for me: my mind, my heart and my soul.  Receiving your likes, feedback, encouraging words and developing friendships is plenty reward for me… I don’t need to concentrate on increasing my numbers, it would be nice but not at the expense of my personal needs and pleasure.

I give a lot of myself away to others in the outside world, in the blogging world I deserve to be true to me!
